JetBlue Utilizes Augmented Reality to Promote New Route
JetBlue Airways is the most recent airline to utilize augmented reality in its marketing campaigns, using the technology to promote its new service between New York and Ontario, Calif. The airline set up its business in Victoria Gardens, an outdoor shopping mall just miles from Ontario International Airport in Rancho Cucamonga, to get a virtual tour of the Big Apple.
The occasion, called “OntARio to New York,” with accentuation on the “AR” for expanded reality, empowered members to make a trip to New York with just their cell phone. By downloading an application intended for the event, members could utilize the camera on their phones to explore New York City tourist spots, for example, the Statue of Liberty and Times Square that was overlaid over existing locales in Victoria Gardens.
*JetBlue began service from ONT to John F. Kennedy Airport in New York City in September, about 10 years after the company dropped service between the two cities.
